Merchandise Planning Manager

What you’ll be doing:

Inventory Procurement 

  • Develop and execute accurate inventory purchase plans 
  • Maintain constant communication with production team and all manufacturers, adjusting orders to sales performance, production flow, and any inventory changes
  • Manage physical receipt of jewellery, ensuring accurate pricing and inventory count 
  • Report weekly to total company on updated inventory and critical stock replenishment

New Product Development

  • Actively participate in new product development and assortment.
  • Partner with Design to provide technical direction to ensure feasibility of the proposed designs
  • Contribute to the development of quality standards within the business
  • Collaborate with Design to develop products that meet cost and quality standards
  • Work with external partners to bring new production techniques, innovations, and materials to be considered for future launches
    • Ensure that products are of high quality and fixes of any quality issues are implemented in a timely manner
    • Drive the seasonal production process

Supplier Management

  • Develop target costs, and negotiate pricing with (local and international) suppliers to ensure alignment to overall margin targets
    • Part of the core team in sourcing and evaluating new manufacturing partners, including packaging and other product-related suppliers
    • Oversee the development and maintenance of product and material specifications
  • Collaborate with agents, vendors, and factories on daily tracking of production processes, and work with internal teams to resolve production issues in a timely manner.

What you’ll bring

  • You are a creative problem solver and leader who is not afraid to take risks and take responsibility
  • You have a bachelor’s degree or college diploma in business, retail management, or a related field
  • You are experienced in planning and/or buying with at least 5 years' in the retail space
  • You have experience and understanding of manufacturing, supply chain operations, and distribution 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the jewelry and jewelry manufacturing industry is an asset
  • Experience of working and communicating with international factories and suppliers including India and China is an asset
  • You are a detail-oriented natural problem solver, using your strong analytical skills to find solutions and improve efficiency
  • You are an excellent and open communicator - both written and verbal
  • You are proficient in Excel, (and a digital/e-commerce background is an asset)
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit, thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and relish in working collaboratively with cross-functional groups
  • You are eager to take on new challenges, introduce and implement new approaches and ideas, grow, test and learn
  • You are a self-starter and must be able to work in an entrepreneurial environment
